Riverview Charter School’s Chris Hoogenboom was the big winner at the inaugural Low Country Scholastic Chess Tournament held April 16th in Beaufort.
Chris, son of Chris and Cathy Hoogenboom, won the over 500 section besting 19 students. Chris is now rated 6,200 out of almost 35,000 Junior players in the country!
Chess coach, Michael Kruse said “Chris is on a fantastic, Bobby Fischer-like winning streak! He has won his last 19 US Chess tournament games and his USCF rating in now 1168 up from 939 in January. During this streak he also collected the year long Golden Isles Grand Prix Title, The final Golden Isles Elementary Championship, a title in Statesboro, GA and the SC State Elementary Championship where he topped 78 students!
