Riverview Chess Team Shines at State Finals

The Riverview Charter School Chess team, sporting brand new “RookRay” Tee Shirts, placed a very respectable fifth out of 26 teams at the State Finals held on March 5th in Columbia.

Christopher Hoogenboom was a big winner. He won the overall elementary section besting 77 students, representing schools from across the state. Chris was the only elementary player that was undefeated and untied, winning all five games.

Coach Kruse said, “Chris has consistently proven his strategic, tactical and opening theory skills.  His chess is aggressive, exciting, dynamic and solid with a style similar to former world champion Mikhail Tal.

William Davidson competed in his first USCF tournament and Daniel Millet played in his second.  Kindergartener, Casey Hoogenboom finished with three points out of five in 24th place. He had to play many older players even up to 5th grade.

Congratulations to the  RookRays and their parents!
